Changing how Falcon works

@navin It would be up to @samuel, @Fox, and @pooja as epic owner, reviewer, and client owner to decide if that epic should be handed over to Falcon in full, or if the other option of delegating individual tickets would be preferable here.

In case of a full handover, please don’t move the epic itself – it had time logged on it in previous months, so transferring it to Falcon would mess with sustainability and billing/accounting-related data from those months. (The same goes for the discovery ticket that Samuel has been working on.)

Create a copy of the epic in Falcon instead.

@pooja Outside of the existing WGU epics, is there any work that WGU would want us to do now if we had capacity? If so, you could spin off another epic from BB-9294 and give it to Falcon right away.

Not that I’m aware of. All the work needing priority is part of either BB-9294 or BB-10622. The Template Block that @Fox mentioned is probably a better option.

I also agree that the Epic Template Block is the best option right now.

@pooja What about BB-10607 and BB-10765?

I don’t want to be left wondering. @braden Is there any other update for Axim? We’re still in the same situation, right?

Regarding the Templated Block epic (BB-10617), I’m ok to hand it off. The discovery/proposal is nearing completion, so assuming the estimates are accepted, this should be ready to work on soon™.

If it does hand over, can I suggest a sync-up call with the new epic owner, to get things up to speed?

I would also love to be kept in the loop with development on this as it progresses, as I’m genuinely excited about the possibilities here. :slight_smile:

To add something in the short run-- I’ve created Log in - OpenCraft which I think team members in Falcon are especially well-suited for. Someone please snatch both the assignee and reviewer roles here :slight_smile:

Also, feel free to work ahead on it.

Also @tikr we’ll need the WGU support account in Falcon-- I had to put that ticket on Do Not Log in the interim. Thanks!

@Fox Thanks! I can take it. Is this task already estimated or should we provide an estimate?

Please provide one :slight_smile:

@Fox Done :white_check_mark: Updated the account of FAL-4349 as well.

@samuel Awesome! That’s great news.

@falcon That means you can go ahead and make a copy of the epic for your cell :rocket: The two tickets that haven’t had any time logged on them yet (BB-10618, BB-10619) are OK to move over as is; no need to clone them.

That sounds like a great idea :+1:

@pooja Noted, thanks. If you get an opportunity in the coming days/weeks (at the conference, perhaps? :slightly_smiling_face:), maybe you could mention to WGU that some capacity for additional work has freed up, in case they have something that needs doing that they didn’t bring up with us yet?

I cloned BB-10617 → to FAL-4350 and moved the two tasks that did not have time logged to it.

@tikr Should we also clone the discovery ticket or leave it as is in the bebop epic?

@samuel Thanks for letting us take over the epic. Let me know when we can have the sync-up call?

@rpenido @ChrisChV Let me know if you one of you want be the epic owner or reviewer. I am fine with either.

@navin My understanding from his earlier comment was that @samuel would finish up the discovery. So I don’t think you’ll need a copy of it in Falcon.

I’m happy being the reviewer if @ChrisChV doesn’t want to.

@rpenido Yes, that’s fine, I don’t want to take the lead in an epic for now.

@navin absolutely, happy to any time! Easiest might be to add an event to my google calendar: https://calendar.app.google/SPUHudCGekW1irur6 :slight_smile: Or just ping me if you see me online. I’ll be doing my last epic update today, so handover today or tomorrow could work nicely.

Agreed, the discovery is very close to being finished (it just needs UI/UX review rounds, and estimates), so I’d prefer to finish it myself to keep the context.

Hey @falcon I think we need to bump this thread and continue the discussion, as it seems like Falcon has very little billable work to do at the moment. It’s nice to see our CCs making lots of contributions lately, but it’s going to throw off the sustainability numbers. Do we have any big projects that can start soon?

@braden Yes, we need some billable projects. I am trying to keep my CC budget going above the limit but it has been too long now without tasks.

Is Falcon getting tasks from the Jira migration? Surely that has work to be done, right? The biggest thing feature-gap wise, as far as I’m aware, is the need for a time tracking solution, so some discovery there would be a good start if it hasn’t happened yet.

There are two potentially larger projects coming up that could be a good fit for Falcon. One is confirmed, and the other is uncertain/in Discovery still. I can’t share the details in the public forum but I will in a private thread.

Yes, this discovery is in progress in SE-6665. From there, estimates for new tasks will be approved, though it may still take another sprint or two, as input is required from UX/Product, the Sustainability Manager, and the Administrative Specialist.
