I believe I missed the window for the poll but am a YES for the Capetown trip.
@DouglasDraper and @kaustav will you get in touch with Cay and discuss the details of booking the trip? I see there are about 11, 12 including you Doug that are interested ![]()
@cassie @kaustav As of today, Cay didnāt know if weāre a go or not on the Capetown trip and the date. I read weāve got 11-12 people who want to go and I think the date is July 13th, correct? Should I let Cay know? Thanks!
Thanks @DouglasDraper ⦠As per this poll around 10 of us are interested in the day trip to Cape Town (not sure if the poll includes you, if not then itās 11).
And 13th July, I think should work best for this. I was looking to convey all this to Cay this week (during our planned meeting to discuss the safari trip), but the meeting is yet to take place. I can email her instead, unless you are already in conversation with her about the day trip.
@Ali I was finally able to get clarity on my July schedule⦠and unfortunately I wonāt be able to make it to South Africa at all
Iām moving to a new apartment on July 1st, then I need to be on-site for an (important) consulting contract for a few days the following week. Had I known earlier that this yearās conference would happen in July, I would have organized it differently ā I wrongly assumed that it would happen somewhere in April or May, like in previous years. Thatās too bad, I would have really loved to see everyone again. Oh well, Iām looking forward to reading about the teamās adventures! ![]()
@DouglasDraper Iām definitely interested in this! When do you think we might hear more about it? Iām holding off on booking any flights etc. for now since this would change the dates.
@gabriel Oh no! Thatās too bad. It wouldāve been fun to hang out IRL again. Weāll have to make up for lost time in 2025
.
@braden This is great. I already forwarded you the trip details, but sharing it here too for anyone else who might be interested.
Me and @DouglasDraper are looking at doing a 5 day trip there starting from 15th July.

Sorry @braden donāt know I wasnāt pinged on your message. Yes, Cay today provided an updated quote for 3 to 5 days at Kruger which Iāll send you now. @kaustav and I are leaning towards a trip from July 15-20.
Great, Iām in for the safari!
This looks amazing! Are we planning this as a team-wide activity? Or should we sign up individually?
We are planning to do the safari trip to Kruger after the co-working week and so technically we are signing up individually. But we do have a common email chain, so that Cay (she is arranging everything for us), can organize the same domestic flights from Cape Town, common transfers, etc.
Me too! I donāt know when Iāll make it back to SA, so want to see everything I can.
Iād also love to do a balloon ride during those 5 days at Kruger⦠Is anyone else interested? est R4800 pp
This is great !!
I spoke to Cay this morning and mentioned that you and @Agrendalath might also be interested in doing the safari. She said that one lodge might not be able to accommodate all of us, so she might have to split us into two nearby lodges.
Anyone from India applying via the eVISA thing get asked for a Police Clearance Certificate? I am guessing I might have inadverdently selected the wrong Visa sub category. Mine says Section 11(1)(A).
Sigh. I looked at all the costs for the trip, and I canāt do Kruger
Iāll still do the Cape Town day trip, but am leaving the following Monday. Iāve commented on Cayās spreadsheet to let her know, and updated my flight details everywhere.
Hope you all have a beautiful time though!
@team Would any OpenCraft Core Contributors be interested in being an Open edX Conference Ambassador? An ambassador would help promote the conference across their social media by posting a pre-created social media post on any platform of their choice at least once a month. I will also post the ambassador posts on our OpenCraftās LinkedIn.
If youād like to volunteer, please let me know over the next day or so. Iāll need the following (you can send via Mattermost or Email):
- Photo of you
- Your title
- Possibly a quote
Hereās what the post will more or less look like:
