OpenCraft is an “in-kind sponsor” at the 2024 Open edX Conference. This means our team will be volunteering our time to help out with various tasks during the conference week.

Every one of us needs to get involved. We can choose which tasks we’d like to do, so be sure to put your name down soon before someone snatches the task you have your eye on! Please see more details in the ticket below.

For those who may miss it in the docs:

There will be a staff tour and training session Monday 1 JULY from 1500 - 1700 in Van der Sterr Front Lobby.

So we need to hurry up, I guess.

Totally get that not everyone may be in Stellenbosch on Monday, but we’re hoping that enough people will be there that the few who can’t make it can ask for help from people who did make it!

Please indicate whether or not you can make this tour on the “Available Staff” tab on the Staff for Open edX Con 2024 sheet.

Did anyone else just realize that the S.A. appliance plugs are not the same as British? :neutral_face: I read you can buy adapters at the airport or are commonly available.

That’s such a good call. I thought I checked, but seems like I misread it. European plugs also require an adapter.

@gabriel Are we allowed to use OpenCraft’s Uber account to pay for the taxi to and from the airport? Is there a cap on that? E.g. on 30th of June I would need to travel from my house to the train station, and then from the train station to the airport, which is ±80-100 euros. More or less the same on my way back. This doesn’t include traveling from the Cape Town airport to our accommodations.

@Ali Apologies if this has already been brought up, and I’ve missed it. Will there be transfer organized from and to the Cape Town airport on 1st, and 14th-15th of July? Or should we use taxi/train? If it’s the latter, it would be cool to have a short guide on how to use (if it already exists, could you point to it please :blush:).

Also, I have a small request/suggestion - it would be super helpful if there was a “index post” which would have all the important info + useful links, so it would be easy to find all the useful info quickly. I know most of it has already been posted in various threads, and it’s been not always easy to follow all of it, so some might’ve been missed, and could be hard to find among all the comments in these longs threads.

@maxim transport to/from the airport is considered part of your flight cost, and doesn’t count toward the on-site transportation amount cap. However, IIRC there might be a per-user limit set on our OpenCraft Uber accounts – so you’d better pay for that fare using your personal account (or take a regular taxi) and have it reimbursed.

IIRC Uber requires personal cards be added as a backup if per-user limit on the OpenCraft accounts is set.

This caused issues for me last time in Bogota because for some reason none of my cards worked with Uber outside of India, and so I was unable to use Uber at all while there.

I was wondering if the per-user limit could be removed this time (if Uber allows it) and instead we take it upon ourselves to stay within the agreed limits.

@kaustav If that limit causes issues, it’s fine to remove it - it’s more there remember that there is a limit, but as long as everyone is aware of the budget that’s fine.
