Hi team, I’m juggling a lot of things right now, and I was wondering if anyone is looking for work and would like to take over the work on recurring automatic dependency updates (eg. Renovate)?
I’m struggling to keep on top of it, and there needs to be some work done to make it all easier to manage.
The current situation looks like:
- SE-6622 is the recurring master ticket, tracking most dependency updates and info about which tickets for specific repos.
- BB-11033 is an epic to trial adding Renovate to a batch of repos, to determine effort required over time. Renovate has been added to all the selected repos, and there are recurring tickets in progress to watch the dependency update PRs.
- BB-11308 is the recurring ticket to watch Listaflow PRs.
- A growing backlog of open Renovate/Dependabot/branch sync/“Python requirements update” PRs, with varying effort required to test/merge.
- The responsibility to check and merge them is a little split:
- I’m covering the Listaflow and any other repos that don’t have someone else assigned
- a few repos have members assigned through BB-11033
- Gabor covers launchpad-cluster-template
- Piotr unofficially manages the branch syncing and Python requirements update PRs for our openedx plugins
It’s not a large amount of work (SE-6622 has a budget of 2h/sprint, and BB-11033 is just epic updates right now). But it’s been lower priority for me, a little messy to manage, and I’ve fallen behind…
It’ll need a few hours to get on top of the situation, and some untangling of responsibilities and tracking PRs.
