I think I got my Secret Santa Gift! :christmas_tree:  :star_struck: It didn’t come with a note, but since it’s kinda what I mentioned on my list, it must be!

It’s a VERY cool and EXTENSIVE set of colourful markers! My fingers are itching to use them - they are amazing

Whoever my Secret Santa is - they are super organised! So I’m going to venture a guess and say @jill?

Awww… sweet of you to say, but no! This wasn’t me. Try again

Fantastic gift though, whoever you are! So many pretties!

My Secret Santa sent this cryptic-yet-promising message, but I can’t find where to reply, so posting here:

Hope you have received the Octopus, there is another gift on its way

I haven’t received the Octopus yet! :octopus: But I’m really excited, and will keep an eye out for it, and the bonus gift, wow!

I’m going to wait until I can see said gifts before trying to guess who’s sending them… but based on when the message came through, I think I can rule out everyone who’s sound asleep in North/South America right now… :female_detective: Europe and Asia, I’m looking at you! :star_struck:

I got my present this weekend! It was actually a present for Rupert, which was perfect. “Magic Cat Balls”

He was a little skeptical at first but got into it quickly

REALLY into it

he got so incredibly high he was left staring at the tablecloth for five solid minutes with drool dripping off his nose :joy:

Thank you Secret Santa! It could honestly have been any of you so I can’t guess. But the cat loved his present.

I just got my secret santa gift. It was from @guruprasad! :santa:

I received a box with bunch of India’s sweets: Soan Papdi, Kaju Katli, Moong Dal Bafi, and a few others! (apologies for the bad writing - I’m trying to copy what is written on the box).

I tried them all along with my wife, and it was super fun!
They were really different from any other sweets that I’ve had before. Lots of things that I’ve only seen used on savory dishes or tea were in them.

I’m having a hard time linking the sweets to their names, but my favorite ones were: Kaju Katli and the ones marked in red in the image below.

Thanks a lot! I really liked the gift.
It was really nice to know a bit more about India through food.

Last secret Santa I got basmati rice and some spices from @kshitij, so I’ve been trying out India’s culinary bit by bit with this secret Santa.

I sent it via an international shipping site and they used DHL courier. Due to the export/import formalities caused by this, I had to reveal that I was his secret Santa and take his help to get the shipment delivered after clearing customs.

I am elated that you liked those sweets. I wanted to send you something that you wouldn’t have easy access to otherwise and I am relieved that it all worked out!

nudge, nudge, wink, wink next year’s organizer :stuck_out_tongue:

My gift came in!

It’s some delicious Indian treats :9

Here’s the card from my Santa:

And some pictures of the actual treats themselves:

These are quite delicious! I love the complex flavors of the noodle crisps, and the deserts are quite different from the kind I’m used to-- in a good way

Thank you!

As for who my secret santa is-- well, they certainly worked hard to obscure it! The treats were labeled for American sale and they came from a California address-- but no one on the list has a California address!

This leaves me with limited evidence. However, I suspect my secret Santa is Pooja, for the following reasons:

  1. Pooja is in North America now, and although she is in Canada rather than California, it’s not uncommon for folks to travel between the two countries. What’s odd about it being from California, though, is that it’s on the other side of the country! So this might be a red herring.
  2. The treats are from India, and one of the things I requested was treats from one’s home. While Pooja is now calling Canada home, that’s a recent change and I’d guess she’d respond with Indian food when responding to my request for ‘treats from one’s home’.
  3. The writing in the card is in a script that looks more traditionally feminine to me. While such scripts are not exclusively feminine, assuming my secret Santa actually wrote it and takes the feminine gender leaves me with one person from India who is on the secret Santa list (unless I’ve somehow forgotten someone!) The card is a flower, also more traditionally feminine.

Of course, most of this could be thrown out the window if my secret Santa had an accomplice they had purchase, write, and ship the goods. In which case I could be completely wrong! But my best guess given the evidence remains Pooja.

Solid reasoning @Fox but unfortunately it’s not me! Kudos to your santa for doing a great job at hiding their identity! Although it looks like the suspect list is now narrowed down to those from India except me and Guruprasad

I wish my handwriting was as good as the one in the picture!

P.S. If the “murukku” was a deliberate choice to represent a snack from their home (in India) and not a random selection, that might be a clue too

Haha, I don’t have enough confidence in my knowledge of Indian Cuisine or geography to guess from this, so at this point I’d just be brute forcing it. I’ll let my Santa reveal themselves, if they’re keen to

@Fox It was from me. Great detective work there :) I am happy to have not fallen in the first guess. I don’t want to pose a tougher challenge than this.

Sending food from India is really tricky - customs, packaging, longevity of food itself. And the cost of shipping would be more than the cost of the snacks itself. Thankfully, my wife’s sister lives in California and she is great. So, she arranged for the all the local items and specifically Murukku - which is from my home state of Tamil Nadu in India.

I am glad you enjoyed the food. :hugs:

Sneaky! Thanks, @tecoholic

Aha! So it was a clue

I received my :octopus: ! Or more specifically, my Swaptopus! I’ve named her Stormy :cloud_with_lightning: and she is sweet and changeable like a sea octopus and so so soft. I :purple_heart: her!

The box came from Stuttgart, so I’m going to guess that @tikr sent her?

(Posting this from my mobile on a data connection. So apologies for any typos or issues with the below post)

I got my gifts from my secret Santa today! :tada::heart:

Inside it, there was a nice card revealing who sent it. Thanks @Ali

This is an awesome gift, considering how I had given very little to work with in my wishlist. I have never tried gourmet popcorn and this looks exciting and interesting to me. I’m planning to go watch the new Avatar movie in the coming days and will prepare and take some of it to savour during the movie. And my daughter loves the Dark Fantasy cookies and she is planning to finish it off before we get our hands on it.

Thanks again for a great gift!
