Serverless Database - Amazon Aurora Serverless

Today in the Large Instances Working Group call, we learned from Raccoon Gang about Amazon Aurora Serverless. They have been using it and found it reduces costs by about 20%. I’m thinking that some of our AWS clients may be very interested - in particular the one with major exam spikes. Apparently the benefit is that it can auto-scale very quickly, so if you have spiky demand, it will be smaller and cheaper most of the time, and “scales instantly to hundreds of thousands of transactions in a fraction of a second” as needed.

Thanks, @braden. The DB wasn’t a bottleneck in this use case, but we wanted to do the migration to Aurora after MySQL 8 upgrade anyway. It’s good to know that it works without any special adjustments.
