@antoviaque I know it’s an eternity away, but has the TOC got any idea of when the location of the next conference might be announced? I spend half the year outside of SA every year and tend to plan my travels around the conference location, so having a rough idea of the timeline would be really helpful for my planning.
I second this query
it will really be helpful to know when it is at least.
@Ali @cassie It shouldn’t be too long - this was discussed in the last TOC meeting. The summary of the TOC meeting should be be published early next week, with an announcement coming up soon. I can’t tell you more, but I believe you should be able to make your plans soon.
Thanks, @antoviaque - this is good news!

2026 Conference Planning
The 2026 Open edX conference location and host have been confirmed and will be announced. There is also a plan to co-locate future conferences with Democon, and the next step is to discuss the coordination of planning efforts.

The suspense!!!
@antoviaque Your TOC meeting notes seem to have been archived as part of the suspected vandalism Sarina mentioned here. I tried to unarchive them, but Confluence kept timing out
, and I wasn’t sure which folder they belonged in.
Could you please restore them when you get a chance? Thank you!
@Ali Thanks for noticing this and pointing me to the Slack thread - I have unarchived all the TOC pages that had been archived, along with all the other pages below https://openedx.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/COMM/pages/46793342/Open+edX+Community+Home . I posted in Slack to let them know there too.
Quick update to anyone following this discussion:
A little Axim birdie told me that the conference location will be announced this week or next. So not too long left to wait!
The suspense! ![]()
The 2026 conference is in Salt Lake City, Utah.
19 - 22 May.
Knew it
let’s get planning, then!
Yes! :) Make sure to book the date in your calendars! Including the following week for the coworking, so May 18-29th.
Note that given that the US might be difficult visa-wise for everyone to attend and expensive, we talked about considering doing the conference and the coworking week in two different locations. Since only a small portion of our talk proposals get accepted lately, we might focus conference attendance on the talks, and have the full team at the coworking. India was mentioned as a potential place, which could be nice!
Anyone willing to organize?
Since there will be two locations, it could be two different people.

Even though I love visiting the US, I have personally made the decision to avoid travel to that country this year due to their country’s ongoing economic and political hostility toward Canada and descent into authoritarianism. I was really hoping they’d pick a non-US location for the next conference.
So: definitely +1 for another coworking location.
It looks near about impossible that I would be able to attend the conference this time even if my talk is accepted, since the average wait time right now just to get an appointment with the US consulate in my city is 5.5 months. Plus whatever time they take to process visa applications.
So, there won’t be enough time to get a visa after the talk acceptances are announced.
It seems like a few of us feel this way. On top of that, a lot of team members would have a hard time getting visas anyway.
With that in mind, I’m wondering if there’s another way we could spend the conference week that still helps OpenCraft from a marketing and visibility perspective, and also supports the Open edX community.
One idea: what if we spent the week of the conference together workshopping and building a new feature (or a few)? A focused sprint could be really productive, and if we choose an affordable location, two weeks in one location with the full team together might cost less than sending a small group to the U.S.
Just putting the idea out there. I’m curious what others think, and whether something like this would be a viable alternative given that conference attendance is part of many of our contracts.
Agreed.
Oh, that’s an interesting idea! We could even redirect what the conference tickets would’ve cost for most of us into funding a focused sprint instead (is that what you also mean?). PS: Modular Learning is getting a lot of attention. Just saying ![]()
I was thinking more about the cost of flights and accommodation, but you’re right — we’d also save by not having to buy conference tickets.
