Wasn’t me @Fox , but I love the shirt!
@samuel Yes yes, it was me
I’m pleased that the Montreal book threw you off track.. but that’s what you get when your wishlist includes “books in French” and “children’s books”!
I also hope you enjoy This is How you Lose the Time War. Somebody gave me a copy last year for Christmas and it was my favourite book this year.
BUT WAIT!
THERE’S MORE!
It’s so cute! I love it!
Well, if it wasn’t @jill … maybe it was @gabriel ? Honestly, I’m just shooting in the dark here! But at least I have a nightlight now ![]()
Aha thank you @jill , well played! ![]()
I think I’ve got my secret santa gift, but due to the mess at home due to the renovations. I haven’t been able to open it yet. Just putting this here in case the santa got a message that it was delivered, but didn’t see the corresponding message here. I will post it soon!
I received this book today. I haven’t ordered this, so I am assuming this is from my Secret Santa. The premise of the book is so amazing, I have already started reading it. I also got to know that there is a movie based on this book, too.
This gave me a hint about who this could be, either @Fox or @gabriel.
Not me! ![]()
Before I could open my Secret Santa gift, I got another one a few days later, and then yet another one just yesterday.
The first gift I got was the Sourdough Culture. I think I’ve mentioned that I enjoy baking to a few people but the only one I’ve discussed sourdough with was @antoviaque so, my first guess would have to be him.
I tried making sourdough during COVID lockdowns (like many other people), but I was not very successful. I’m really looking forward to trying again with a better starter!
The other two gifts were the plants in the above photos. I’d love to find a good indoor place for them once the renovation work is over. I don’t remember ever mentioning that I like having plants to anyone, so this is an excellent guess by my Secret Santa.
Thanks for the great gifts!
Ha, it was me this time, @farhaan ![]()
David Cronenberg is a legendary Canadian filmmaker. I recently learned that he wrote books, too, which prompted me to buy you this gift. His movies explore the dark side of humanity and are often not for the faint of heart, featuring elements of science fiction, violence, body horror, and psychological tension. My favorite Cronenberg movies are A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Videodrome, and The Fly. I’m glad that you’re enjoying the book ![]()
@kshitij You got me! ![]()
I’m glad you liked the plants too ![]()
Btw for the sourdough, I don’t know if the note came through what Amazon sent you, but I highly recommend reading this book, which is great to understand the science & biology behind sourdough, which then makes it much easier to understand how to work with it:
Shoot! If Gabriel got Farhaan, that means both my guesses shot down. Hmmm… I’m pretty clueless here-- I’d just be picking at random, really. I give up! Reveal thyself, Santa ![]()
I thought these were macaroons at first. Good thing I didn’t get these, because I might have tried to eat them ![]()
Thank you so much @gabriel, I will watch those movies too, the book is very captivating. ![]()
@Fox
I am so happy that you enjoyed the gifts and I am sorry for the tshirt size ![]()
I did get the note! I will go through the book. I really like digging into the science of cooking so it sounds right up my alley.
Thanks so much for my Secret Santa gifts! Both gifts are from India, and I know it isn’t Farhaan, so I’m guessing it has to be @kshitij or @kaustav? Unless someone is trying to trick me of course. I am going to try to food this week, and I’m finding a place for the banner, but I’m not sure if I’m supposed to hang it all year round or only for special occasions ![]()
@jordan Pav Bhajis are yum
. Hope you like it. But this gift wasn’t from me. ![]()
(Sorry for the late reply. I thought I replied earlier, but I think forgot to hit send)
@jordan That was from me :-)
I wanted to send something that I enjoy, that I haven’t seen outside of India as much. I don’t think I’ve come across Pav Bhaji at all outside India so it felt like a good option! I hope you like(d) it.
As for the banner, it is called a “toran” or “bandhanwal” and I’ve seen people leave it up all around the year, but it is generally associated with the festive seasons. It’s usually put up on the main entrance to the house since it’s symbolises luck and prosperity. You can put it up anywhere you want, since it is just a form of art.
I got my Secret Santa from my not-so-Secret Santa today! It was a beautiful art-print card of Vancouver
and a gorgeous, sterling silver necklace…
I absolutely adore it @jordan (the post office gave it away
and now I know your handwriting!) It’s perfect for me. I love fine jewellery, the ocean, and to top it all off… my birth stone is a pearl ![]()
It’s gone straight on my neck! Thank you for being so thoughtful ![]()
PS: I love the name of the jeweller ![]()
@cassie I’m so glad you like it. I was just starting to worry it wouldn’t arrive, but good to know it takes at least a month if I get you again next year
I wanted to find something locally made for you, and it felt right!
