Secret Santa

Ahahah, well done @jill - useful gift, and good uncovering of santa ;p

Mwa ha ha ha… ahem… ho ho ho ho! (That’s my attempt at fiendish festive laughter.) Very sweet of you, thank you @gabriel!

Yep… they’re slow moving (i.e., drunk on eucalyptus) but their claws mean they can do this:

I also already got my gift!

The secret Santa tried giving me a Steam game, but wasn’t able to due to some pesky Steam rules. So I got a nice gift card instead.

I’ll use it to buy the book The Shallows: How the internet is changing the way we think, read and remember.

My secret santa left a clue in the gift card (it was from Amazon Australia!), so it’s either @anon46505572 or @jill.

My gift has arrived today too! It seems to be a very special Spanish alcohol!

Drum roll… with my dog who is as impatient as me.

Tada!

Sadly I don’t drink alcohol but you can be sure that my French family will be happy to taste it during end-of-year parties.

After some research about Vermouth, it is mostly produced by France, Italy and Spain. The taste seems to be close to wine, so my guess is Xavier? (not sure at all :joy:)

That’s such a valuable skill to have!!

Oh oh oh, well done! :stuck_out_tongue: It’s not very French actually - it’s originally Italian, and it’s nowhere better than in Barcelona, where it’s almost a religion. You don’t say “going to have a coffee” with someone - you say “going to have a vermut” ;p

Too bad that you don’t drink alcohol, I should have though of that possibility! But hopefully you should make a few happy people :) Not sure if you’ve got the note - but make sure to serve it cold with large ice cubes, a slice of orange, and some green olives. The mixing of those tastes is what makes it great! :)

Originally I wanted to send you the one that I buy from a local wine maker here, which is amazing - but they wouldn’t let me ship it at the post office… Instead I got you an order of the one primed in Spain last year. :)

Woah, I love vermouth! They even have it on tap in Spanish bars… which I think says a lot

That’s actually a perfect gift - I love Havaianas, and I had worn out the ones I had bought last in Brazil. Even if I could buy Havaianas in a lot of places in the world, it’s not the same ;p

As for guessing who is my santa - coming from Brazil that can only be @giovannicimolin or @paulo. And since my card is signed, I can safely guess it’s you @giovannicimolin  Unless that’s a ploy to make me guess wrong ;p

That was me! I’m glad you liked it

From your wish list:

Something that gives me an excuse to travel to a place is welcome too.

Now you have an excuse to come to Brazil every year or so: to buy new Havainas (or at least to try the new ones here) :p

To my Secret Santa: I moved from Montreal to Quebec City on Dec 30th, but I left a note to the new tenant to warn me when I receive a package. I’ll try to get ahold of him/her since you just told me that the package has now arrived

…and my secret Santa was @jill :) What an amazing gift! @jill sent me a nice collection of 7" music records in vinyl, most of them recorded by Australian bands. Some of them I already knew (Men at Work, Midnight Oil, Adam & the Ants) and the others were all very pleasant discoveries :) I also received a greeting card with cool trivia about Australia. Thank you @jill, that was very thoughtful and put a huge smile on my face. I’ve listened to the records a few times times already, always happy to discover new music!

So glad you liked it @gabriel! I had a great time pawing through the 45s at this vinyl shop in my neighbourhood that I didn’t even know existed.

Doing some necroposting but I just realized that you probably never received my gift @kshitij:frowning:

Of course I didn’t had any tracking, so it is probably lost, so spoiler alert. I have sent some nougat of Montélimar and salted butter caramels. But in any case, if you receive it a day, please don’t eat it. :joy:

Sorry Kshitij, but at least you won’t eat ton of sugar because of me

Would some people be interested in doing this again this year? :santa: :christmas_tree: And if so, would you change anything?

If you would just redo it the same, a simple “like” on the post is enough - otherwise comment by replying to this post, and if needed I’ll split out to a new thread.

I wasn’t here last year, but I’d like to get involved as well

I think that was me, and I was plannig to get something by the conference. I was a bit at loss when it seemed that the conference wouldn’t happen, but honestly I completely forgot about it when the pandemic situation started to get more serious.

Sorry I missed this ping! I did not get it nope :-(
Your gift selection is great, I love trying new things, especially if it’s sweet :-)
Coincidentally a short while before your post I attempted making chewey salted caramel candies for my nephew during the lockdown, since all bakeries/confectionary stores nearby were closed.
The nougat of Montélimar reminds me of a similar but very different thing in India called Chikki.

There is other stuff I ordered off Etsy that never arrived either due to the lockdown, so you are not in a unique situation.

Alright, let’s get this started!

The process is the same as last year - I’ve just done this:

I’m in too

@gabor OK, I have just added you  I’m not sure how the tool handles late additions, since the santas have already been drawn, but I guess it’s a good way to find out. Let me know if there is any issue.

Sorry for the late reply, I didn’t realize the previous message, but thank you for adding
