I think we are still neglecting our friends in Australia and Japan as the bulk of our team can overlap well with America, e.g. Europe and parts of Asia. It seems it’s either America or East Asia/Oceania when scheduling such synchronous meetings.
Can we have another one at an earlier time, such as 8 AM UTC? Would that work for those who Can’t make it? @farhaan @jill @kahlil @pooja
I’m willing to have this one moved to an earlier time and skip it myself if it works, as I’ve been participating in Social Chats every sprint. But I’m only speaking for myself, I know it’s going to be too early for other members as well.
It’s ok! I’ve accepted that I can either meet with people in the Americas, or people in Europe/Africa/Asia, but not everyone together

@paulo Yes, it’s true that I commented above that we shouldn’t be doing all the social chats at the same time, and then I organize one – doing exactly that. :/ Though I rationalized it here by saying that it’s the first of its kind involving the whole team - we need to be a certain number to make it work at all - but that if it was a success we would organize other ones like it at different times?

Sure, and no worries, I just wanted to include our colleagues. The voting ends up skewing towards timezones close to UTC, and I just noticed this after the results were posted.
It’s been a while, right? Hopefully, we’ll have a conference next year and everyone in the same timezone

And btw, now that we have tested chatroulette, would it be useful to keep the service at https://opencraft.com/chat-roulette/ active, so it can be used freely in future social chats? It doesn’t always need to be a full team social chat like today’s, but it could simply be one of the options of themes for each sprint’s social chats. Or for events with the rest of the community, like the Open edX conference for example.
Let me know, and if so I’ll see with chatroulette to subscribe to their yearly plan.

That was a lot of fun! I’d definitely like to do it more often. Maybe a good mix between this and our usual social chats? I did like the cross-cell aspect of it though, I got a chance to meet some of the other team members whom I don’t get to interact with often. Perhaps we can keep changing the timing so it would be favorable to everyone?
I don’t know how well it would work with a larger community but I’m curious to hear what others have to say about that.

I agree that it’s better if it’s cross-cell, but I think it’s also fine to have it in-cell - many people from other cells jump into regular social sessions anyway (which is awesome!).

FYI, the chatroulette tool is renewed, you can use https://opencraft.com/chat-roulette/ for any of the upcoming social chats over the next year. Then at the end of the year, we can circle back to see if it’s worth renewing it again then.
